We submitted a video ...along with 700 other schools

We need your help!!!  Please vote for Bear River Charter School.  You can vote once a day.  We are currently in third place.  Voting ends on Sunday, at midnight.

I surprised my students on Thursday afternoon with a last minute field trip to Utah State campus that we took on Friday morning.  My students were SO excited by the spontaneity of this event.  After we cut 2,000 flyers I talked to them about appropriate behavior when we were on campus.

Here is how the conversation went:

Me:  The purpose of the field trip to talk to as many people as possible, so that we can hand out as many flyers as we can.  I know that almost all of the students on campus are double your age, but they are going to love seeing you!

First hand.

Boy 1...panicked face:  What if they are bullies and try hurting us?  How do we call for help?

Trying to keep a straight face.

Me:  All of the students on campus are very nice.  In the four years I went there, I never saw a fight.  If you feel unsafe, stand close to your chaperone.

Second hand.

Boy 2:  What if they're DRUNK?!

Shocked, couldn't keep the straight face...died laughing.

Me:  Utah State is a "dry" campus so student won't be drunk.  You are not allowed to drink alcohol on campus.

Conversation immerses.

Student explaining what "dry" campus means to another student: It's very dry on campus because we live in a desert.  Remember, that's why the Utah Indians lived by water.

Hilarious.  This made my day.
